Shimoga:-

    The name of the city is derived from the term Shiva-Mukha, meaning Face of shiva. An alternative etymology is that the name is derived from the term Sihi-Moge, meaning Sweet Pot. The district formed the southern tip of Emperor Ashoka's Mauryan Empire in third century BC. It was ruled during later centuries by the Kadambha (4th century), Chalukyas (6th century), Gangas, Rastrakutas (8th century), Hoysalas (11th century), and the Vijayanagar rulers (fifteenth century). The city got an independent identity under the Kaladi Nayaka rule during 16th century, reaching its pinnacle under the rule of Shivappa Nayaka. From the late 17th century onwards, the city was a part of the Kingdom og Mysore until the independence of India in 1947, when Mysore merged into the Republic of India.

On 1 November 2006, the government of Karnataka announced the renaming of Shimoga to Shivamogga, along with nine other cities in the state, but the renaming is yet to get approval from the Central Government.

 ಗಣಕೀಕರಣ :    ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ಆಸ್ತಿ ತೆರಿಗೆ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಗಣಕೀಕೃತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ.  ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ 1999 ರಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನದವರೆಗೆ  ಜನನ ಮತ್ತು ಮರಣ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಣಕೀಕೃತಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದು ನಾಗರೀಕರು ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ನಾಗರೀಕ ಸೇವಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲೆ ಜನನ-ಮರಣ ನೊಂದಣಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇವಾ ಶುಲ್ಕ ಪಾವತಿಸಿ ಪಡೆಯಬಹುದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಲು ಹರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.ಹಾಗೂ ಇದರ ಬಳಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸದುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕೇಂದು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಜನನ ಮತ್ತು ಮರಣ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಪತ್ರವನ್ನು ಆನ್ ಲೈನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದು - ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಿಕ್ ಮಾಡಿ

ಸಾವðಜನಿಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ದೂರುಗಳನ್ನು ಆನ್ ಲೈನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ದಾಖಲಿಸಬಹುದು - ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಿಕ್ ಮಾಡಿ 

 COMPUTARIZATION:     We are very happy to inform the citizens of Shimoga city that we have computerizing the collection of Property Tax , Birth and Death certificates from 1999 to till date under state Government Nirmala Nagar computerization scheme, from now on wards citizens are requested to visit the citizen service centre at the office for registration and getting of Birth and Death certificates by paying service fee. Citizens are requested to make use of this facility.

ಘನತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ವಸ್ತು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ:   ನಗರಸಭೆಯ 35-ವಾರ್ಡ್ ಗಳ ಘನ ತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ವಸ್ತು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನುಹೊರ ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.  ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀದಿಗುಡಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಕಸ ಸಾಗಾಣಿಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ.  ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಮನೆ ಮನೆಯ ಕಸ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿ ನಗರ ನ್ಯೆರ್ಮಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಲು ಸಹಕರಿಸುವುದು.ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ದೂರುಗಳಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ಸಹಾಯವಾಣಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರವನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುವುದು, ದೂರವಾಣಿ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ- 226592    –ಪೌರಾಯುಕ್ತರು,  ನಗರಸಭೆ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ. 

Solid Waste Management:

         Solid Waste Management in 35 wards has been outsourced. It includes  street sweeping and waste transportation. Citizens has to encourage the Door to Door collection activities in the wards and  pay the  service charges as per the MSW-rules for door-to-door collections.
